San Antonio is blessed with a multitude of
special and general purpose Amateur Radio
 Clubs and/or organizations.

Ham-It-Up

We're also blessed with a large number of licensed Amateurs listed in San Antonio, more than 2,200 as of December, 2006. And that total doesn't include those hams who have relocated here and haven't had time to update their records with the FCC to reflect a change of address. That count also fails to include all the ham radio operators with addresses listed for surrounding counties, or other cities within the area if they didn't use "San Antonio, TX" on their license.

Unfortunately, just because there are over twenty-two hundred licensed Amateur Radio Operators in San Antonio, it doesn't mean that most of them are active with local ham radio clubs or activities. The two the largest clubs in San Antonio have around 200 registered members each (SARC / SARO) and the third largest club (AARO) has around 135 members. But when you compare club rosters, you find about at least a one-third overlap in common members. This means that probably less than 10% of the licensed hams are members of the various clubs, and less than 3% will be seen frequenting at meetings or participating in local events.

What is the purpose of the SanAntonioHams.org web site?

Ham PlatesSan Antonio Hams is the only local ham web site that collects and distributes information about all of the local San Antonio and South Central Ham Radio Operations, Clubs, Groups and Organizations in one convenient place. It is our hope and intention to increase awareness of, and participation by, the local Amateur Radio community. We always strive to keep updated on what's happening in this area so that you don't have to search dozens of web sites and hang out on multiple radio nets all over the radio frequencies and calendar. We have listings for over 20 local groups / clubs that have some connection to Ham Radio, plus links to regional and governmental agencies of interest.

UploadUPLOAD YOUR EVENT PHOTOS HERE - We've created an FTP upload site for you to send us your event's photos easier than clogging up your email system (faster too). Simply point your FTP program or browser (works with IE okay) to ftp.sanantoniohams.org and enter the ID of "photos" and password of "photos" if asked. Nothing in this directory is truly secure since any other visitor will be able to copy or see what you have uploaded. Please create a new sub directory before uploading, using your call sign as an example, then put your photos over there.

Send an email to us immediately so that we'll know to go grab the photos and start working with them. Contact us direct via email or phone if you have any problems.

Sunbelt SoftwareAs most of my visitors already know, my "day job" is performing computer consulting for businesses and personal needs, and we frequently see computers that were under protected, or not protected at all, from viruses, spyware, etc.

One of the better software protection sytems we have found so far, come from the fine folks at Sunbelt Software. Below are links to allow you to buy their stuff on-line direct, without having pay someone like me to come to your house / office to install it for you. They also offer a "site license program" for home computers, allowing you to install on every computer without buying separate annual license for each computer. I've found generally that if you have more than 2 PC computers to protect, this will save you $$. Vista compatible. They have a new Anti-Virus program coming out soon, but that hasn't been released yet.
